TOPIC: Eclipse Process Framework

Learn about the Eclipse open source project for systems development best practices called Eclipse Process Framework (EPF). EPF enables academic institutions, consulting companies, technology vendors, and other software development organizations to collaborate around software development practices within an open source environment. Rather than reinventing the wheel, organizations can build on each others work and ideas in a fully transparent environment. EPF is currently co-developed by over 20 organizations, and provides practices for iterative software development with a strong focus on collaboration. We will discuss what organizations are developing EPF, and how attendees can get involved in the project. The presentation will focus on how the tool can be used to author, maintain and publish an Organization’s Set of Standard Processes (OSSP). It will walk through OpenUP, the lightweight, agile, open source version of the Unified Process as well as a Security Certification and Accreditation process that was built from the ground up based on NIST FISMA guidance.

Frank Dupont, Number Six Software, has over 20 years experience in software lifecycle tools and the services industry. Frank is currently a Service Delivery Manager for Number Six Software. His responsibilities include managing consultant teams and the quality and success of client engagements. Frank also consults with clients on iterative development techniques, software process improvement and project management. Prior to joining Number Six Software, Frank was with IBM Rational Software where he held multiple technical and sales leadership roles. Frank was a technical services manager and sales manager while at IBM Rational. At Rational, he was a member of the teams that defined the original “Rational Approach” (later to become RUP) and the “4+1 Views of Software Architecture”. He has worked with commercial and government clients on developing adoption strategies for software process improvement and software tool adoption across all phases of the software development lifecycle - from project planning to performance testing.
