Topic: Successful Implementation of CMMI in a Small HealthCare IT Organization
This presentation will explore and discuss how one HealthCare IT organization attained CMMI Level 2 while retaining its innovation advantage and organizational ability to hit critical market windows within a tight niche market. In addition, this presentation will also compare and contrast the organizational culture of large companies against the organizational culture of small companies within the framework of regulation, industry experience, organizational structure, communication flow, criticality of systems, and CMMI experience.
Fred Hilkowitz is the process architect at MedPlus, a Healthcare IT company. He led MedPlus to achieve a CMMI Level 2 certification in Sep 2007. Prior to MedPlus, Fred worked at Raytheon in varying roles, including Manager, Software Quality Engineering and Software Project Manager. He was part of successful CMM and CMMI Level 4 initiatives while at Raytheon. Fred has an MBA from Indiana University and a BSEE from RPI. He is a certified PMP and Six Sigma Greenbelt.
Lori O’Malley is the Director of Technical Communication and Software Configuration Engineering at MedPlus, Inc. Lori has been a core team leader and member of numerous successful process improvement initiatives at MedPlus, in addition to helping MedPlus achieve CMMI Level 2 Certification. She has co-authored and presented “Utilizing Project Management Principles for Successful Six Sigma Execution” at the Information Resource Managers Association (IRMA) 2007 Conference, Vancouver, BC. Recipient of numerous Society for Technical Communication Awards and MedPlus Excellence in Leadership, Lori has BA’s from the University of Dubuque. In addition, she is an American Society for Quality Certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
